Melaka, 7 May 2026 — Pun Sook Teng, a student of Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT), Kuala Lumpur Main Campus, represented the University at the final round of the WorldSkills Malaysia (Belia) competition in the Mobile Applications Development skill category, held at Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) from 5 to 7 May 2026.
About the competition
WorldSkills Malaysia (Belia) is the national-level skills competition for Malaysian youth, organised to benchmark technical and vocational competency against national and international standards. The Mobile Applications Development category challenges competitors to design, build, test and deploy functional mobile applications under timed conditions, assessed against criteria covering user interface design, functionality, code quality, and adherence to the given specification.
Competitors who perform strongly at the national level may be considered for further representation at the regional and international stages of the WorldSkills movement.
The competition cycle for this category began with a prequalification round conducted in 2025, open to eligible youth competitors from public and private higher education institutions and technical training institutes nationwide. Competitors were assessed on their ability to deliver a working mobile application against a set brief within a fixed time allocation, with only the top performers progressing to the national final.
Pun Sook Teng was among those who successfully cleared the prequalification round and secured a place in the final.
The final round was hosted by Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) in Melaka over three days, from 5 to 7 May 2026. Competitors worked through the competition modules across the scheduled sessions, with work assessed by an appointed panel of judges and experts.
Five competitors qualified for the final, of whom four competed.
