Three students from the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology (FOCS), Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT), KL Main Campus, participated in the WorldSkills Malaysia Belia (WSMB) 2026 – Cloud Computing Peringkat Akhir, held from 5 to 7 May 2026 at Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM), Melaka. The competition was organised by Jabatan Pembangunan Kemahiran (JPK) as part of a national initiative to identify and develop young talents with strong technical capabilities in various skills areas, including cloud computing.
The three TAR UMT FOCS students who qualified for the final stage were Tan Yong Sheng, Lo Yue Hui, and Lim Hui Teng, all from the Diploma in Computer Science (DCS), Year 2 Semester 3 programme at the KL Main Campus. Their qualification to the final stage reflected their technical potential, commitment, and readiness to compete in a challenging skills-based environment alongside participants from other institutions.
Throughout the final-stage competition, the students were exposed to practical and industry-relevant cloud computing tasks that required them to apply their knowledge in areas such as cloud infrastructure, deployment, configuration, troubleshooting, and problem-solving under time constraints. The competition provided a valuable platform for the students to strengthen their technical competencies, build confidence, and experience the expectations of a national-level professional skills competition.
The students were accompanied by Low Choon Keat, lecturer-in-charge from the KL Main Campus. During the competition period, guidance and support were provided to ensure that the students were well-prepared and able to participate effectively throughout the three-day event.
Although the official results have yet to be announced, the students’ participation in the WSMB 2026 Cloud Computing Peringkat Akhir is already a meaningful achievement for TAR UMT FOCS. It demonstrates the faculty’s continued effort in nurturing students with practical computing skills, industry readiness, and the ability to compete at the national level. The experience also supports TAR UMT’s commitment to quality education, digital skills development, and the preparation of future computing professionals for the evolving demands of the cloud computing industry.
