Capture the Flag Workshop 2025

33 students from the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology attended a workshop conducted by the members from VerdeSec and M53 on 8th February 2025.

VerdeSec is a cybersecurity service provider founded by TARUMT alumnus Mr. Wong Yik Han, and M53 is a united Malaysian CTF team comprising passionate members from various Malaysian CTF teams who compete together in international-level CTFs. Several TARUMT alumni are key members of M53, actively participating in CTF competitions and organizing knowledge-sharing sessions.

The aim of the workshop was to pique students' interest in Cybersecurity, equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to participate in CTF competitions, and offer insights into careers in cybersecurity.

During the workshop, students explored common CTF challenge categories and gained hands-on experience with various challenges. They practiced exploiting MS17-010 vulnerabilities, tackled privilege escalation challenges. Additionally, the workshop provided valuable insights into the roles and experiences of cybersecurity penetration testers and Application Security Engineers. Students learned about setting career goals, preparing during university, and developing interview strategies to stand out in the cybersecurity job market.
