Malaysia Team Wins Medallion for Excellence in WorldSkills ASEAN 2023 IoT Category
A team of two Malaysian students, Chan Yung Her and Wong Wai Zhong, won the Medallion for Excellence in the Internet of Things (IoT) category at the WorldSkills ASEAN 2023 competition at Suntec Convention & Exhibition Centre, Singapore. The competition held on 23 - 25 July 2023 participated by top youth talents from the region in 22 skills areas. The students, who are both from the Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT), were guided by IoT coach Mr Chan Choon Kit and the expert Dr Tew Yiqi in 6 months training. They successfully completed the IoT challenge, which involved designing, developing, and testing an IoT-based solution to a real-world problem, including an Intelligent Lighting System, Smart Home & Building System, and Video Surveillance & Alarm Monitoring System.
The Malaysia team's achievement is a testament to the high level of skills and talent that exists in Malaysia's technical workforce. It also demonstrates Malaysia's commitment to developing skills in the area of IoT, which is a key technology for the future. The WorldSkills Asean competition is a regional skills competition that is held every two years. It is a prestigious competition that showcases the skills of young people from across the ASEAN region. The Malaysia team's achievement is a significant one for the country. It shows that Malaysia has the talent and skills to compete at the highest levels in the field of IoT. It also demonstrates Malaysia's commitment to developing skills in this important area. Compared to the participation in 2018, we achieved one step higher by winning a Medallion for Excellent medal. We are confident that Malaysia will continue to achieve success in the field of IoT in the years to come. We would like to congratulate the Malaysia team on their outstanding achievement. They are an inspiration to young people all over the country.
