FoodRescuer: A Mobile-Based Charity System for Commercial Food Waste Recovery, developed by students Yap Li Yang, Pun Sook Teng, and Pan Khai Hin under the supervision of Ms. Nik Nur Adlin Nik Qausbee from the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology (FOCS), TAR UMT, was awarded the Bronze Award at the Digital Innovation & Technology Exhibition (DIGITEX) 2026 held at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Johor Bahru on 15 June 2026.
The project aims to address commercial food waste by providing a mobile-based platform that facilitates the redistribution of surplus food to those in need. In addition, the system promotes halal-aware food donation, enabling recipients to identify suitable food options while supporting sustainability, reducing food wastage, and enhancing community welfare. This achievement reflects the students’ innovation, technical skills, and commitment to developing technology-driven solutions for real-world challenges.
