On 13 June 2025, the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology (FOCS) successfully conducted a comprehensive community service programme at the SJK (C) Nan Yik ‘Lee Rubber’, Kuala Lumpur aimed at enhancing the digital literacy of the school's dedicated teachers.
The programme, led by the Deputy Dean, Mr. Ooi Chun Pew and a team of 12 passionate FOCS faculty staff, featured two simultaneous workshops: "Spreadsheet for Beginners" and "Advanced Spreadsheet" from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM. There were a total of 74 teachers immersed in practical learning, with the beginner's session held in the school’s Computer Lab A and the advanced workshop in Computer Lab B.
The "Spreadsheet for Beginners" workshop provided fundamental skills in data organization, basic formulas, and creating clear spreadsheets, equipping participants with essential tools for administrative tasks and classroom management. In contrast, the "Advanced Spreadsheet" workshop delved into more complex functions, data analysis techniques, and visualization tools, empowering experienced users to leverage spreadsheets for in-depth insights and sophisticated reporting.
This initiative underscores FOCS's commitment to giving back to the community and bridging the digital divide, particularly within the education sector. The program was met with enthusiastic participation from the school teachers, who expressed their appreciation for the valuable skills gained.
FOCS looks forward to future collaborations that foster knowledge sharing and contribute to the professional development of educators.
